Discovering Blackpop's Home Town of Wirksworth

Blackpop's studio and showroom is based in Wirksworth, a quirky Derbyshire market town nestled into the Ecclesbourne River valley. Wirksworth has always had an industrious history of mining and manufacturing, including textile design, with the first mill being built by Richard Arkwright in 1771.

Wirksworth has developed its rightful reputation as the creative hub of Derbyshire, now gaining recognition as a design hub. The town has become an amalgamation of writers, musicians, filmmakers, ceramicists, dancers, actors, and architects. The artistic community is showcased at the annual Wirksworth Festival in September, an interactive event that involves the entire community.

Greenhill, a mis-matched street with stunning views over the valley.

Take a walk around Wirksworth and you will find historical buildings and meandering, narrow paths wherever you turn. Pictured above is Greenhill, a steep, winding street with vast views over the valley, which meanders up to the amazing Star Disk.

Walking is not the only thing that you can do in the famous Peak District, Wirksworth is also the host of many amazing restaurants, pubs, gorgeous holiday cottages and and our very own art-house cinema. Why not stay in a Blackpop inspired room, with interior design by White Rabbit Interiors, featuring our bespoke 'Hampton Gold' wall mural. You may also spot Blackpop in The Northern Light Cinema, a bijoux independent cinema with its very own Blackpop Box. Umami is a great restaurant with fresh dishes, inspired by love of travel and bringing people together through food. Our award winning Feather Star Ale House is part of the Red Lion Hotel and has the most quirkiest of clientele and atmospheres.

Curiousa & Curiousa

Whilst you are visiting us, why not take a look at our super talented friends at Curiousa & Curiousa, an independent and innovative studio who specialise in unique, hand-blown glass lighting. Based at the historic Haarlem Mill, Curiousa design and manufacture bespoke glass pendant lights and chandeliers for both commercial and residential projects. Founded in 2010 by Esther Patterson, each of her designs still seeks to bring out the intrinsic beauty of the glass itself, and this focus has helped establish Curiousa's reputation in the decorative lighting industry.

BeauVamp

BeauVamp is another wonderful independent business based in here Wirksworth. Led by the fabulous Designer/Director Alice Moyles, they specialise in hand-stitched silk lampshades, with a vintage inspired design and contemporary style, and have breathed a new life into early 1900s hand-sewn lamp shades. Our collaboration with BeauVamp features five of Blackpop's lovely signature prints, a welcomed celebration of colour and texture to bring light into your space.
