It was with a trembling lip and an array of mixed emotions, that we closed the door on our beautiful home of 18 years for the final time just a few short weeks ago. I confess, that we blubbed like new born babes.
We adored our Arts and Crafts home, a safe haven that had not only witnessed all the ups and downs that life throws at you, but had been our base, security blanket and indeed our place of work during the conception, development and establishment of Blackpop, a brand that we are so incredibly proud of.
We were also lucky enough to have had our modest pad featured in ‘Homes & Antiques’, magazine and ‘The Observer’, so we do have some rather special mementoes to remember our beloved ‘Florence House’ with, and well, how cool is that?
PASTURES NEW
Having driven by it numerous times on our frequent visits to the Derbyshire Dales (but with no thoughts of actually moving) we spontaneously viewed a property for sale in the uber creative, Peak District town of Wirksworth and were inexplicably enamoured in one of those ‘it’s meant to be’ moments that usually only ever happens to other people.
So there we found ourselves, on a chilly March day, with tear stained faces and shaking hands, opening a new front door, a door to new exciting adventures, the door to our new safe haven AND that new home that came with.....a shop front! Yep, we’d only gone and got ourselves our very own showroom!
WELCOME TO THE BLACKPOP EMPORIUM
Originating as a Gentleman’s Tailors and Outfitters in 1889, we now had our very own showroom to play with and a very tight deadline in which to complete it’s makeover into an emporium of delectable decor.
Our aim was to create a scintillating showroom that felt inspirational, welcoming, magical, quirky and edgy ( I know, that’s a huge wish list! ) with, of course, our wallpapers and fabrics as the colour pops that bring everything to life.
Expect to see walls hung with our award winning wallpapers and murals, sumptuous chairs and pouffes upholstered in plush, patterned velvets and an array of plump, vibrant cushions to set your pulses racing.
It’s fabulous (for us too) to see all of our collections together in one space and we do feel very privileged to have the opportunity to do so.
We also get the joy of displaying our new ranges of art prints and handmade lampshades surrounded by complimentary wall coverings and fabrics - and boy do those shades look fab on Abigail Ahern Edition flock lamp bases!
OPEN FOR BUSINESS
A visit to our little showroom will hopefully inspire and excite you whilst allowing you a chance to experience our products close up and personal, triggering the old fashioned sense of touch in addition to sight, as you feel the softness of our velvet and delight in the real vibrancy of our patterns, colours and prints- sometimes the old ways are just the best!
So, as the light box sign is up and the switch flicked to ‘on’, we are now able to invite our lovely clients to visit us and perhaps whilst you’re here, also enjoy some of the beautiful local countryside and nearby sights of the Peak District - The renowned lighting designers ‘Curiousa & Curiousa’ are only a hop, skip and a jump away and Wirksworth has a renowned, annual Arts Trail, independent cinema, and book festival, in addition to Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Kedleston Hall, miles of walks and those all important Bakewell puddings, all within easy reach.
Do expect a warm welcome, an array of Blackpop products, a feast for your eyes, the odd cup of tea and the ever presence of the very excited ‘shop dog’ Tessi, who guards the showroom window whilst she lays amid the window display and watches the world go by - now there’s the cue for everyone to sing ‘How much is that doggy in the window....’
