DESIGNED IN DERBYSHIRE, MADE IN THE UK

Blackpop are proud to be based in heart of the industrious Midlands and care passionately about their client service and the quality of everything they create.
They are committed to using the skill set and experience of local printers, crafts people and artisan makers in the creation of their products.

Blackpop's Sustainable Credentials

On their journey to becoming more aware of their impact on the environment, Blackpop is working to improve its day to day and long term approach to being more sustainable. As a central part of that they keep their carbon footprint as shallow as possible, with all their suppliers less than a 70 minute drive from their studio and showroom in Derbyshire

They work closely with their wonderful artisan makers to maintain their high standards -  cushions, draperies and some furniture pieces are made to order thereby reducing the need for excessive storage and transportation and generally encouraging less waste.  Wherever possible they repurpose furniture, fillings, fixings and trimmings - thereby extending the life of pieces that would normally go to landfill.

BLACKPOP X THE NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

Blackpop's collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery was the catalyst for 'The Tudors Deconstructed', one of their most iconic collections to date. Invited to make a response to the Gallery's world-renowned Tudor painting collection, Blackpop created a unique set of designs that remain amongst their bestsellers.

Many of the images that are embedded into each design were created as part of the National Portrait Gallery’s Making Art in Tudor Britain research project, which closely examined the paintings using imaging techniques such as photo microscopy, x-radiography and infrared reflectography.

" These images became my digital palette from which I then created the designs - layer upon layer, deconstructing each element, drawing motifs and filling shapes with colour and texture taken directly from the scans. Honestly, it was such a privilege to be able to work with these iconic images ". Maxine Hall Director and Designer Blackpop

Accessioned into the V&A archives in 2021, these award-winning designs designs feature Mary, Henry and Elizabeth,
the royal heavy weights of their time.

" The National Portrait Gallery is delighted to have worked with Blackpop on The Tudors Deconstructed Collection - and excited by the creativity displayed in these beautiful designs ".
Nicola Saunders, Head of Business Development, National Portrait Gallery.

THE TUDORS DECONSTRUCTED

'Mary'

Blackpops most iconic design, Mary, uses the shapes, colours and textures from portraits of Mary Tudor. The bright teal and orange colours resemble the richness of the original paintings and brings warmth and interest to any space.

'Elizabeth'

Elizabeth, Blackpops second design in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery is a vibrant mix of greens, blues and pinks. You can see elements of Elizabeths dress, jewellery and the original ELIZABETH text in a Colbalt blue.

'Henry'

Perfect for those who lean towards the Autumnal colour pallets. Henry has a heavy base of Golds, Browns and yellows, making it the perfect choice for those wanting to add warmth and cosiness to their home or commercial space.

BLACKPOP X SIR JOHN SOANES

'The 'Collectors' Collection' was born from a collaboration with the Sir John Soanes Museum, Londons hidden gem and treasure trove of antiquities and wonders.

The Collection consists of seven beautiful patterned fabric and wallpaper designs - alive with a range of colours, tones and detailing that make them artworks in their own right - perfect for statement furniture, walls, ceilings and flooring.

Collaborating with the Museum and directly working and reworking architects' drawings, paintings and object d'art, Blackpop has undoubtedly created its most opulent & dramatic work to date featuring some of Soanes and Robert Adams previously unseen work - from footprint drawings of the Bank of England, to paintings in Queen Annes bed chamber at Hampton Court Palace.

THE 'COLLECTOR'S COLLECTION'

'Hampton Hex'

This design has been created using more of Robert Adam's illustrations, along with paintings that fill the ceiling of Queen Anne's bed chamber in Hampton Court Palace.

'Argo Navis'

Argo Navis is Blackpop's latest design for this collection. A riot of colour and tone this design has motifs, elements and details taken from Soanes carefully curated collections in his home.

'Hampton Gold'

As the golden colour way to Hex, this design features motifs that are perfect for those seeking the ultimate in opulance and ornate beauty with boarders, cherubs and guilt decorations

'Neo13'

Neo13 consists of the reworking of Robert Adam's illustrations that never came to realisation until now. His architectural drawings show parts of Soanes house and Pitzhanger Manor.

'Capriccio'

This beautiful design was created by taking segments from Canaletto's paintings of Venice, drawings and motifs from Soanes Neo Classical residence in Lincoln's Inn Fields.

'Fresco'

Fresco, whilst similar in pattern mix to Capriccio, has a signature yellow background taken directly from Soanes original paint work and stained glass at his home, now the Museum.
